Praising The Lord with Thanksgiving

Dale Gooding - Psalm 95

Gratitude must naturally have a living object.

I) The Psalmist's Invitation (Ps 95:1-2)
    A) "Come" - This is an Invitation (1)
        1) Invokes Opportunity
        2) Invokes Participation - Worship is
            Corporate, we participate:
    B) "Before Him..." - God is in our midst (2)
        1) Come w/ Thanksgiving
            (an "offering of the hand")
        2) Come w/ Singing "joyful noise"
            shout/sing w/musical instruments

Transition: The Psalmist then gives 3 outstanding reasons to do so ...

II) The Psalmist's Rationalization (Ps 95:3-7)
    A) As seen in who God is - God is Great (3)
        1) Great = "High, Long, Loud, Mighty"
            any sense great!
        2) In reality, we can t imagine how "great"
            He actually is!
    B) As seen in what God has done
        in Creation (Ps 95:4-5)
        1) Heavens Declare His glory (Ps 19:1);
            His righteousness (Ps 97:6)
        2) Creation is Evangelistic (Rom 1:19-32)
    C) Realization of "what" God is
        compels Worship (Ps 95:6)
        1) Worshippers humbly revere God
            for what He has done
        2) We kneel before Him;
    D) As Seen in What God has done -
        in Salvation (Ps 95:7a)
        1) He is ours & we are His (John 17:6, 10)
        2) He is the "Rock" of Salvation (Ps 62:2,6-7)

Transition: But many, though they see, will not submit to God. Notice

III) The Psalmist s Exhortation (Ps 95:8-11)
    A) A Warning:
        1) Hardness = of Heart
        2) Wandering = of Heart
        3) Ignorance = of God s Ways
    B) God s Promise from Anger =
       Non-Admittance - Ps. 95:11
        1) Israel s Example - Repeatedly God
            said to "keep His commands"
        2) Jesus says the same thing in the NT:
            (John 14:15, 21, 23; 15:10)
